Mudslides and flooding as a typhoon in Nanmadol batters Japan

The rescued workers in Japan have warned of mudslides and flooding, it is one of the biggest storms in recent decades. The flood typhoon Nanmadol killed two people and injured about 90 others after landfall on the southernmost island of Kyushu in the morning. 

 

Let us tell you that about nine million people have been told to evacuate, and about 350,000 homes are without power. The forecasts predict about 400mm of rain in the next 24 hours. 

 

The state broadcaster NHK said that a man was killed when his car was submerged in a flood and that others died after being buried in a landslide. One person is still missing, and the report says 87 have been injured. 

 

This is called a super typhoon, and it brought gusts of about 234km\h and destroyed hundreds of homes, disrupted transport, and many businesses as well. If we talk about the disaster, then it is equivalent to a category four or five hurricane. 

 

Tokyo, the capital of Japan, is experiencing heavy rain and the Tozai underground line is suspended because of the heavy flood. All bullet train services, ferries, and hundreds of flights have been canceled. The shops in the market have been shut, and local video footage showed roofs ripped off buildings and billboards toppled over. 

 

The prime minister, Fumio Kishida, delayed a visit to New York, where he is due to give a speech. It will be at the UN General Assembly until Tuesday to monitor the impact of the storm.
