Bill Russell is a legendary basketball player, passed away at the age of 88. Russell was the player with the most NBA championships winner in history. The Boston Celtics had all eleven NBA winning trophies.

He changed the game by continuous shot blocking an important part of defense as a five-time league MVP. He was the black athlete who opposed racial injustice when it was less prevalent than it is now.

Early Age Fight For What He Deserve

In order to achieve the goal, you have to keep in mind a parent’s instruction to become an exceptional athlete. When Bill Russell was nine years old, he was one day in front of his Oakland, California, projects apartment then five youngsters who sprinted towards him slapped him in the face.

When he and his mother went in search of the youngster gang, little Bill expected his mother would punish them. Instead, Katie Russell his mother urged him to take each enemy on individually instead of all. He won two and lost three as Russell revealed the story for his Civil Rights History Project that his mother’s advice to her tearful son had huge impact on his life.

But he never falls on the basketball court, where he eventually found success but ultimately revolutionized the sport and become example for all minorities.

How He Takes The Game To The Higher Level

By the year 1963, Russell was a shot-blocking monster in this NBA Finals game, which marked a fundamental shift in the sport. His University of San Francisco coach in the 1950s held that opinion but, Russell did not, though.

His attempt to improve in basketball appeared very fair given that he was also a high jumper in track and field. In the 2013 interview, Russell recalled, “My first varsity game at USF played at the University of Cal Berkeley. Their centre was an American preseason all-star which I blocked his first five shots.

Nobody else in the building had had witnessed anything similar in the past. They decided to talk about what I was doing during the timeout. My coach tells me in our team huddle that you can’t play with such defensive approach. On the side lines my coach demonstrated to me how I should play defence. I do it again, and the guy makes three consecutive layups to score.

I responded by saying that this was ridiculous. I then resumed playing in my familiar manner that I am born for. Later I realize, what I was doing was moving a horizontal game into the vertical realm, and the outcomes were strong.

In 1955 and 1956, Russell led San Francisco to NCAA championships and he also guided the United States to an Olympic gold medal in 1956. The beginnings of an NBA run in history followed shortly after.

Love And Hate In Boston For Russell

The Celtics won 11 championship trophies held between 1957 and 1969, he led record eight straight wins. There were several excellent players, including Bob Cousy, Tom Heinsohn, Sam Jones, and K.C. Jones but no one match Russell.

He was the link to all 11 championships and a strong competitor who always finds ill before games. Despite his success, he had a tense connection with the city where he played the most games. Russell had faith in certain Boston’s white supporters who would applaud victories then afterwards criticising the club for having too many Black players in the team.

Former teammate Heinsohn recalled about Boston suburb where Russell lived, hosted a meal in Russell’s honour in a Boston Globe documentary. Heinsohn stated that the recipient was so moved by the distinction conferred upon him that he broke down, began to cry, and he said that he wanted he could live in Reading for his remaining life.

But very soon after that, someone broke into Russell’s home, damaged his memorabilia, urinated in his bed, and spat on the walls. He grew distant from people outside the Celtics locker room. He earned a rep for being snarky. To screen out the “good” fans, he wouldn’t sign autographs.

Stephen Beslic noted in Basketball Network in 2020, Russell was the sort that had suspicions about people’s motives and didn’t want someone manipulating him for his popularity. That’s why he proposed a straightforward solution: in exchange for 15 minutes of coffee time with one of the greatest players in game history, you won’t get anything signed by him.

His Indefinite Love For His Team

Russell adored the Celtics and the forward-thinking white executives Walter Brown and famous head coach Red Auerbach. The Celtics became the first NBA club to feature an all-Black starting line up during the dynasty era.

Russell became the first Black head coach in the NBA when Auerbach appointed him to fill his shoes after he retired. Even though it was historic, Russell claimed not to care. He merely thought he was the ideal candidate for the position.

Russell Beyond The Court

Russell actively participated in the civil rights movement that coincided with the Celtics dynasty in the 1960s. He watched the famous “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr. from the front row at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

He and his Black teammates boycotted a Kentucky game because a restaurant turned them away. He sided with Muhammad Ali, a boxer who declined to serve in the military during the Vietnam War, along with other well-known Black athletes.

Go Up For Glory Is A Book By Russell

Damian Thomas, curator, claimed that it is truly transformed how athletes wrote about themselves and society of the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture’s sports display. He claims that the book was a component of the show and transformative autobiography.

Thomas noted that sportsmen were starting to express thoughts on racial issues, politics, and other topics in addition to just sports. Russell never stopped advocating for civil rights and combating racism. Russell stated that George Floyd’s death by Minneapolis police that year was “yet another life snatched by a country devastated by prejudice and intolerance.

What can we do about this kind of racism, Russell composed in the book? Racism cannot simply be shaking out of society’s fabric like dust from a rug, it rises briefly into the air before falling back to its original location and thickening over time.

Reforming the police is a start, but it is insufficient. Broken systems need to be taken down so we can rebuild. We must use a variety of groups and strategies to make our voices loud as America needs a new rug, and we demand it.

Nichelle Nichols was one of the first black women to play the lead in a TV show. Later, she collaborated with NASA to find minority candidates for the space programme. Nichelle Nichols, aged 89, passed away on Saturday in Silver City, New Mexico.

She was a beloved actress among “Star Trek” fans worldwide for her portrayal of Lieutenant Uhura, the communications officer on the spaceship USS Enterprise. The cause was heart failure, according to Sky Conway, a writer and film producer who was requested to speak for the family by Mrs. Nichols’s son, Kyle Johnson.

Mrs. Nichols had a lengthy career as an artist as she began as a teenage singer and dancer in supper clubs in her hometown of Chicago and eventually performed on television shows. But she will always be best known for her work on Star Trek, the cult-favourite space adventure series that aired from 1966 to 1969.

The adventure series starred William Shatner as Captain Kirk, the brave captain of the starship crew; Leonard Nimoy, who passed away in 2015; De Forest Kelley, who passed away in 1999; and dr. McCoy the ship’s doctor known as Bones in the character.

Mrs. Nichols, a stunning beauty, added a sexy tinge to the enterprise’s link. On its 1967 cover, Ebony magazine dubbed her the “most blissful physique in ‘Star Trek'”; she typically wore a snug red doublet and black tights.

Uhura was a high-minded officer and a highly educated and skilled technician who carried out her high-minded tasks with a professional approach. Mrs. Nichols was he very first black women to play a significant role in any television series. Her rarity on the small screen Television, as black women had typically been shown in secondary positions.

During the third and final season of the programme, in November 1968, Captain Kirk and Lieutenant Uhura were compelled to embrace by the inhabitants of an alien planet. This is what largely regarded as the first interracial kiss on television.

Mrs. Nichols’ initial appearances on “Star Trek” predate the 1968 sitcom “Julia,” in which Diahann Carroll made history as the first black women to play a non-stereotypical character on a network series as a widowed mother who works as a nurse.

Civil rights activists criticised “The Beulah Show,” which starred Ethel Waters as the maid for a white household in the early 1950s and later included Louise Beavers and Hattie McDaniel, for its derogatory portrayals of black people.

But Uhura’s impact went well beyond the little screen. Ms. Nichols started a relationship with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in 1977, working as a speaker and advocate to support the recruitment of women and people of colour for spaceflight training. The first astronaut candidates to include women and others from underrepresented groups were in the class that was chosen the following year.

 In the years that followed, Ms. Nichols represented the organization by appearing in public and recording PSAs. A NASA news release on the event in 2012 praised her contributions to the cause of diversity in space exploration as she delivered the keynote address at the Goddard Space Center’s celebration of African American History Month.

According to the press release, Nichols’ status as one of the first black characters on television who wasn’t just a stereotype and one of the first women in a leadership position as she motivated thousands of women and minorities.”

Grace Dell Nichols was born on December 28, 1932, in Robbins, Illinois, and she spent her childhood in Chicago. Her father is a chemist and once served as Robbins’ mayor. She requested a new name from her mother at the age of 13 or 14, becoming weary of being referred to as Gracie by her friends. Her mother preferred Michelle but recommended Nichelle for the consonance.

She later revealed that she possessed a singing voice with a range of more than four octaves and that she had been a ballet dancer as a young child. She obtained her first professional job in a revue at the College Inn, a well-known Chicago nightclub, while a student at Englewood High School.

Throughout the 1950s, Mrs. Nichols made appearances in a number of musical theatre plays across the nation. She recounted appearing at the Playboy Club in New York City when filling in for Ms. Carroll in the Broadway show “No Strings” in an interview with the Archive of American Television.

She performed as a dancer in the 1959 adaptation of “Porgy and Bess” by Otto Preminger. She made her television debut in 1963 in an episode of “The Lieutenant,” a brief drama series by Gene Roddenberry about Marines at Camp Pendleton. Roddenberry later went on to create Star Trek.

Over the years, Mrs. Nichols made appearances on a number of television programmes, including “Peyton Place” (1966), “Head of the Class” (1988), and “Heroes” (2007). She also made random stage appearances in Los Angeles, including one-woman performances in which she paid tribute to and impersonated Black female artists who came before her, such as Lena Horne, Pearl Bailey, and Eartha Kitt.

However, Uhura was to become her most famous character. Ten years after “Star Trek” ended its run on television, Mrs. Nichols returned to the part in “Star Trek: The Motion Picture,” and she later played the commander-class Uhura in five more films up until 1991.

The ED went to Sanjay Raut’s house a day after an alleged audio of Sanjay Raut abusing and threatening Swapna Patkar, a witness in the case, went viral on the same day. An Enforcement Directorate official arrived at Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s house on Sunday morning in connection with the Patra Chawl land scam case.

The Shiv Sena MP ignored the agency’s summons twice, citing the ongoing Parliament session and requesting time until August 7. Sanjay Raut was questioned by the ED on July 1 and stated that he would appear again if the agency requested it. The ED summoned him on July 20, which he ignored due to the ongoing Parliament session.

July 27, a new summons was issued, which he ignored for the Parliament session. Sanjay Raut stated that he is in Delhi for the session of Parliament. Also According to the ED charge sheet, Sanjay Raut’s wife made a 14 lakh profit on a Rs. 5,625 investment in a construction firm.

Sanjay Raut took to twitter to deny any involvement with a scam and to state that he will not be leaving the Shiv Sena.He stated that this is an incorrect action on the basis of false evidence. I will not abandon the Shiv Sena for any reason, until I die. I will not give up the motive, Jai Maharashtra, “he wrote on Twitter.

The ED action comes just one day after an alleged audio recording of Sanjay Raut allegedly abusing and threatening Swapna Patkar, a key witness in the case. HT has not confirmed the audio’s authenticity. Neither Raut nor any Shiv Sena spokesperson has commented on the viral audio.

Swapna Patkar is Sanjay Raut’s wife is Sanjay Raut’s close advisor, but she is clearly against him in this case. Her statement was recorded by the ED weeks before, and she allegedly submitted some documents against Sanjay Raut. Swapna also stated in her statement that she had received rape and death threats as a result of her comments against Sanjay Raut.

The ED provisionally attached assets worth over Rs 11.15 crore of Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha Raut and two of his associates in April, prior to the collapse of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra.

Pravin M Raut, Sanjay Raut’s assistant and a former director of Guru Ashish Construction Private Limited, owns land in Palghar, Saphale, a small town in Palghar, and Padgha in Thane district. On this Sunday, the ED officials reached Shiv Sena leader Mr. Raut’s residence at around 7 am.

At 7 am, the ED team along with CISF cops reached the Shiv Sena leader’s residence in Bandup in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai and started searching. Shiv Sena is conducting a search and questioning about the Patra Chawla land scam case because Shiv Sena is based on false evidence, as Sanjau Raut said. After some searching, the Shiv Sena leaders start gathering around Sanjay Raut’s house.

The ED officials also took Avinash Bhosale, a Pune-based businessman, in connection with the Yes Bank case. Sanjay Raut is being probed in connection with a 47-acre plot owned by MHADA. The chawl has 672 tenants under Goregaon Sidharth Nagar Sahkari Griha Nirman Sanstha Ltd.

The investigation is into the Patra Chawl land scam of Rs. 1034 crore with Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut. The case is being filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. The Patra Chawl case is linked with Rakesh
